Embroidered Table Runner

From Kashmir, a table runner or wall hanging, hand embroidered in traditional aari work.  Note:  fringe at one end only.

Aari or crewel embroidery gets it name from the pointed crochet hook (aari) which is used to do the embroidery.  The fabric is stretched tightly over a wooden frame and bigger pieces embroidered by embroiderers on all 4 sides.  It is a form of embroidery  that originated in the Mughal era in India, from the 1526 - 1700, at which time India produced about a quarter of global GDP.  SOURCE: designkart.com
