Hand embroidered silk scarf created by stitching together two pieces of recycled silk saris with running stitch (kantha).

Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild detergent.  Do not bleach, soak or wring.  Dry indoors or in the shade.  Cool iron

Kantha is perhaps the oldest form of embroidery in India, dating from pre Vedic times.  Kantha means 'rags' in Sanskrit, which reflects the fact that kantha embroidery is traditionally used to repurpose discarded garments or cloth, by layering and stitching them together for strength, with the simplest of stitches, running stitch.  From Bolpur in West Bengal, India
